Another great quote from smarter people than me. I remember reading this in my early 20’s and it stuck with me. Little did I know it was the quiet start of what’s turned I’d mature towards, and today call The Decision Maker.

The gap between someone getting frustrated with you and you biting back might be small, but we can learn to extend it giving us the time to choose an alternative.

In most cases we regret a negative emotional response and often make better decisions with a little time to reflect.

That’s just one example, there are many opportunities to choose more wisely if you think back about your day.

This ability is one of the characteristics of emotional intelligence and I believe is something we can improve with practice.

So why not try building in ‘a pause’ next time you get the chance.

Written by Alex. I write about responding more deliberately, mostly drawing on what I’ve learned getting it wrong.
