You can’t (necessarily) stop them coming in, but you can step away. You can choose when to read and respond to them.
If you feel overwhelmed or like you’re repelling the idea of reading the notification, just take some space. Leave your phone, close your laptop, find a quiet spot.
The vast majority of messages are not time sensitive. They can wait an hour…or two. Have the confidence to put yourself first – you are the golden goose.
If it helps, take something you can write your thoughts in. Unfiltered. Let it flow.
The end result is not only that you feel better and have more headspace, but also that your response is likely to be stronger.
